Alex Lawrence, voice

Teaching Philosophy

I have been helping students discover ease and joy in singing for over ten years, and in many different styles.  Each journey is different, but I am certain I can help you accomplish your goals.  No two voices are alike, and we will work together to discover your particular strengths.  Expect to laugh and have some fun along the way!

Working with the physical structure of your face and body, we'll uncover ways to free you FROM yourself. Many bad vocal habits are learned through everyday life - together we can identify these to bring you closer to the optimal function of your voice. I will provide a foundation of knowledge for effective breathing and posture, as well as fill your 'toolbox' with many practical methods to alleviate tensions and encourage optimal resonance. As I am an active professional singer, I teach largely through demonstration accompanied by easily understandable technical language aimed to resonate with the student's natural sense of memory and vocabulary. These are methods I have practiced myself over many years as a professional singer at the world's great opera houses, and I know they will help serve your artistry and desire to be expressive, confident and engaging to an audience of 1 or 10,000.
