SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS

  1. Theory

    1. Finish Unit 3

  2. Cuckoo

    1. When you learn a new piece, do the following:

      1. Find and label patterns in the music!

      2. Start with one section and do the following HANDS ALONE:

        1. Notes: speak the names of the notes as you play them. Don’t worry about keeping a steady beat. ONLY NOTES!

        2. Fingering: play the notes and correct finger numbers. Don’t worry about anything else!

        3. Position: Focus on the correct notes and fingering, as well as good position!

        4. Rhythm: Ta and clap / conduct your rhythm. Then play the notes with the correct rhythm.

  3. The Honeybee (next week pass off N.F.R.P)

      1. Set your metronome to m.m. 80

      2. Play with Position and Rhythm as focus (say your goals out loud)

      3. 3 times correctly

      4. Turn off the metronome and do it once more!

    3. What is Expression?

      1. Dynamics (crescendo, decrescendo, forte, piano, etc.)

      2. Articulations (slurs, staccato, accents, etc.)

    4. Repeated Notes:

      1. Please connect them as much as possible. Think about how you ta and conduct quarter notes. With your voice, you connect them to the very next note. Don’t let there be space between the notes if there are no rests.

      1. Compose your own rhythm assignment based on number’s 31-32

      2. If you use ties, please use them across the bar line and not within.

  3. **Solfege

    1. **Prepare Nos. 4 & 5 on pages 16 & 17

      1. Set metronome to m.m. 40 and say and play the syllables with the metronome.

      2. If you make a mistake, move ON! Don’t correct it.

      3. Use finger 2 and don’t play through more than three times for each practice session. This will get easier after each day of practice. Don’t worry if it’s not correct on the first 2-3 days of practice.
