LESSON GOALS
Be able to play all the 2- and 3-sets of black keys in each hand, with correct technique, using fingers 2, 3 and 2, 3, 4.
Compose your own black-key piece, using the 2- and 3-sets of black keys.
Let’s Learn!
This is the KEYBOARD!
1) On a modern acoustic piano, the keyboard normally has 88 black and white keys.
2) As you move up the keyboard (moving to the right) the sounds become higher in pitch.
3) As you move down the keyboard (moving to the left) the sounds become lower in pitch.
Notice how the black keys are grouped. Do you see the patterns?
Let’s Practice!
KEEP YOUR HAND POSITION RELAXED WITH FINGERS ROUNDED.
(SEE THE VIDEO BELOW FOR HELP/INSTRUCTIONS)
1) With your LEFT HAND, fingers 3 and 2, play all the two sets of black keys, up and down the keyboard. Do this THREE TIMES.
2) Now do the same thing but with your RIGHT HAND, fingers 2 and 3.
3) Let’s play the 3-sets now! With your LEFT HAND, fingers 4, 3 and 2, play all the three sets of black keys, up and down the keyboard.
4) Now do the same thing but with your RIGHT HAND, fingers 2, 3 and 4.
Let’s Compose
Using your Newzik app. or downloading the PDF below, compose your own piece using the musical alphabet.
Practice Your Composition!
After you have written your composition assignment above, practice playing it rounded fingers (BUBBLE HANDS!) and a slow, steady beat.
Practice it at least 5 times, or until you can play it smoothly with no pauses.
