Assignment 1 (5-10 Minutes every day until finished)

  • Black Key Technique

    1. See the video for instructions

    2. Go to the Black Note Technique PDF to complete your assignment.

    3. Remember to play the black keys with the same beat ‘ length, no matter if they’re short or long. Set metronome to 120 and play every two ticks.

Assignment 2 (5-10 Minutes every day until finished)

  1. What’s That Noise?

  2. Add all of your wrist markings into the second page.

  3. NUMBER ONE THING TO FIX - DON’T PULL / SWIPE ON THE KEYS

  4. Remember that black note technique is directly related to this!

Assignment 3 (5-10 Minutes every day until finished)

  1. Go to Newzik and access the “Rhythm” PDF

  2. Complete the entire unit! This is 15 pages so don’t save it fo the last minute!

  3. I’ll ask you to teach me about anything found in the unit next week. Be prepared. :)

  1. Go to Newzik and access the “Sightreading” PDF.

  2. Prepare Driving in the G Clef days 1-6

  3. Add wrist arrows to every note!

    1. Forward Wrists (up arrow)

    2. Pop Wrists (down arrow)

    3. Drop & Pop Wrists (curved up arrow)

Assignment 2 (5-10 Minutes every day until finished)

  1. Work on the POSITION “up arrows” in What’s That Noise.

    1. REMEMBER: ELBOW AND SHOULDER STAY DOWN / RELAXED

    2. REMEMBER: WRIST IS RAISED, NOT FINGERS.

Assignment 3 (5-10 Minutes every day until finished)

  1. Go to Newzik and access the “Theory Grand Staff” PDF

  2. Complete the entire unit!

  3. I’ll ask you to teach me about anything found in the unit next week. Be prepared. :)

  2. Prepare pages 2 through 5, following the arrow wrist instructions!

  2. Click on the media button by tapping the center of the screen and clicking the little note icon at the bottom left.

  3. Follow each video in order - Video 1, through Video 5. Follow the instructions CAREFULLY and complete the NFPER charts as you go.

  4. When you’ve finished with Video 5, record a video of you playing the LH and send it to me!

  5. This might seem easy in some ways and very basic, but once you understand how to use the NFPER chart, you’ll be learning pieces really quickly!

  • Write down exactly what you practiced after every practice session. Dustin will ask to see what you wrote at your next lesson.
