Mixed-media. Community outreach. App. Can they be intertwined? organizational skills. Social media management

11th Grade in 2025-2026

Leave August 22, and back Beginning of December 2025.

  1. Debussy, Rêverie

    1. m. 21 - spot the triplet / RH and LH alone then together.

    2. m. 43 - fix LH fingering

    3. m. 46 - fox RH note E in 2nd half of measure.

    4. mm. 43-45 - do 5 times per day correctly as slowly as needed to play everything correctly.

    5. mm. 45.5 - 47.5 - same as #3 above

    6. mm. 47-49 - same as above.

  2. Touch base at our next meetings about Bohemians (social media, archives, etc)

🎨 Color-Focus Practice (NFPER)

At the top of your music, write NFPER using the following color system:

  • NNotes – correct pitches and accidentals (🟦 Blue)

  • FFingering – consistent, effective finger choices (🟧 Orange)

  • PPosition – hand shape, posture, and keyboard geography (🟪 Purple)

  • EExpression – phrasing, dynamics, articulation, tone, etc. (🟩 Green)

  • RRhythm – steady pulse, accurate timing, and rests (🟥 Red)

✅ If you're only recording audio, just use NER.

Step-by-Step Practice Flow

  1. Identify a section to record

  2. Record your section once — video is best, but audio is fine too.

  3. Listen back with one color/goal in mind.

  4. As you listen, mark your music using that color anywhere it needs improvement.

  5. Repeat for each remaining color, one at a time, until all five have been addressed.

  6. Choose a small “spot” section from your markings to fix.

“Spot” until it’s solid — meaning:

  • 3 times in a row correctly, or

  • 5 total correct repetitions, then move on.

  1. Focus on one or two colors at a time while practicing that spot.

  2. Use the troubleshooting checklist below if you're stuck.

🔧 Troubleshooting Tips

🎯 If you’ve tried to fix something three times in-a-row and it’s still not working, don’t just repeat it — troubleshoot:

  • Do you need to slow down?

  • Should you practice hands alone?

  • Could you make the spot even smaller?

  • Would technical exercises help (staccato, accents, etc.)?

  • Do you need to think ahead more clearly?

  • Do you need blocking practice?

10th Grade in 2024-2025

Consider learning another etude

recital 💚Chickadees (L. 7, Etude) Prep 6/10 (instability of memorization)

  1. Melody and bass measures 1-10 - with and without music 3 times.

  2. Spot mm. 13-14 and 14-15 and 16-17 (block RH chords and play melody in LH)

  3. Measures 18 to the end (same as no. 1 above)

Teresa Richert writes music that often features animals and nature. “Chickadees” captures the curious, chirpy personality of this tiny bird — quick, energetic, and full of charm.

recital 💚Suite in G Minor, HWV 432: Gigue, by Handel (L. 7, A) 7/10 (tempo, memorization, expression)

  1. Slow Work: In sections 1-4, 5-8, 9-13, and 14 to the end.

    1. Close-loud RH, LH, HT each day.

  2. Medium Tempi: Using the same sections, practice the following tempi - don’t move on until the previous one is correct. Do with and without music.

    1. mm 56, 63, 69, 72, 76

  3. Final Tempi: Page 1 and Page 2 as sections.

    1. m.m. 76, 80 and 84

    2. Play through without stopping as if it was recital. Take note of any issues and practice them the next day.

Handel’s gigue is a lively dance from his Suite in G Minor. Gigues were usually the final movement — full of fast, skipping rhythms. This one moves with joy and precision, like a musical grand finale.

recital 💚Consolation, op. 30, no. 3 by Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) (L. 7, C) 8/10 (confidence in memorization, expression)

  1. Create your own practice plan for this. Make sure to include hands alone practice and with / without music practice.

This lyrical piece is No. 3 in a set of six Songs Without Words, composed between 1833 and 1834. Mendelssohn wrote these short piano works to express emotion and story without lyrics. He didn’t name this piece himself — the title “Consolation” was added later, inspired by its gentle, calming melody and quiet elegance.
