Royal Conservatory of Music Syllabus in Newzik
🟢🟡🟡🟢🟢🟡🟢🟡
Set metronome to 60 for two notes per beat.
RHYTHM: be able to play with a steady beat. Count 4 8th notes out loud before you begin.
POSITION: please do NOT move wrist around or up and down. All finger ROUND and CURVED.
Remember when you’re playing G minor melodic, the 6th scale degree is E-flat. So we raise it in melodic form to E-natural.
Remember melodic scale: raise the 6th and 7th degrees and lower them on the way down.

Four Star Sightreading and Ear Tests Level 2
🟢🟣🟡🟢🟡🟡🟣🟢🟣
Prepare Set 02 05
RHYTHM: when you get to a quarter not (or other long notes), think of the shortest note value. Be patient with yourself here. This is the only part of music that gives you trouble and frustration. You’re doing so well, otherwise!
Before you begin a Sightreading assignment:
Identify the shortest note value so we can understand how fast to play the example. Don’t play too fast.
Establish the beat (usually a quarter note gets one beat).
Then do the rhythm in your head.
Go slower
Look at ALL the notes. No just one hand. :)
