TECHNIQUE

  1. CREATING THE MAJOR SCALE PATTERN FROM ANY KEY.

    1. Tonic, Whole, Whole, Half, Whole, Whole, Whole, Half

    2. Practice playing whole steps on the keyboard from:

      1. black to black

      2. white to white

      3. white to black

      4. black to white

    3. Remember the starting note called the “tonic”

    4. Choose any starting note

    5. Say the pattern out loud as you play it.

      1. Remember: Whole Step has ONE note between two notes. It can be black or white.

    1. This was not completed.

      1. PLAYBACKS: difficult

      2. BEFORE YOU START AN EXERCISE: do it in your head.

  2. “SIGHTREADING 00 38-45 BAG”

    1. Set Metronome to m.m. 80 = quarter note.

    2. Prepare TWO “days” per practice session.

      1. Place your hands in your lap

      2. Study the time signature

      3. Study the rhythm (do it in your head like you do “star 2” in Four Star.

      4. Set a slow and steady beat.

      5. Start and DO NOT STOP if you make any mistakes.

      6. After you finish, stop and then look back to see if you made any mistakes.

      7. Fix them in your head and try again!

  1. Czerny No. 5

    1. Write in all the arrow markings in the right hand. If you don’t know what to write, look back at Nos. 1-4 and find the answers!

    2. Learn the LH notes.

      1. Have a forward wrist on each chord.

  2. Czerny Op. 823 No. 4

    1. IF YOU SEE A SLUR - CONNECT YOUR NOTES.

    2. LEARN THE CORRECT RHYTHM

    3. LEARN HANDS TOGETHER:

      1. One to two measures at a time, learn this hands together! Remember it will be a bit difficult to keep all the good position work you did this week. So be patient and GO SLOWLY. :)

  3. Czerny Op. 823 No. 3

    1. Write in the scale degrees for each note in Czerny No. 3.

    2. We’re doing this so we can transpose Czerny No 3 to other keys (scales) like G Major, F Major, etc.
