How to Practice

Binder on the music stand, iPad to the right. That is the setup.

Use the Practice Guide below. It writes your practice down for you, no comments needed.

Tap the first assignment on your list.

The timer starts by itself. Read it and practice.

When you are finished, press Done. It saves your time and opens the next one.

Need to stop for a minute? Press Pause.

Lost? Press My Assignment List at the top to go back.

30 minutes a day.

Some assignments finish. Those carry a Done for the Week button. Press it when the job is done and the assignment comes off your list.

Need the metronome, a recorder or the Section-Work colors? They are in Practice Tools. Tap one and it opens inside your assignment. Tap Close to put it away.

THIS WEEK: Play the forward wrist cards on page 13. Once a day.

  • That is Forward Wrist. Technique Book page 12.

  • Find the castle. Finger three.

  • Drop, keep your bubble, low wrist, then forward and off the keys.

  • Right hand first, then left hand.

  • Watch the video before you start.

2. 🟩 GPM Note Reading, Lesson 1, pages 22 and 23

THIS WEEK: Say the musical alphabet forward and backward.

  • That is The Musical Alphabet, Forward and Backward.

  • Forward is A B C D E F G, and then it starts over.

  • Backward is G F E D C B A.

  • Do this one with your mom.

3. 🟩 GPM Note Reading, Lesson 1, pages 24 and 25

THIS WEEK: Find the bat caves and the castles with your eyes closed.

  • That is Bat Caves and Castles, The Bat Cave.

  • Two black keys together is a bat cave. Three together is a castle.

  • Close your eyes, feel across the black keys, then play.

  • Right hand and left hand both.

4. 🟩 GPM Rhythm, Lesson 1, pages 26 and 27

THIS WEEK: Trace the quarter notes, then draw one by yourself.

  • That is The Quarter Note, Drawing a Quarter Note.

  • Say ta for every quarter note.

  • Clap on the X and say ta.

  • Put the note head right in the middle of the line or the space.
