Practice Notes from May 25th Lesson:

1. No need for close-loud in passages like m. 176 LH

2. Close-loud: don’t keep pushing down into the keys after the attack.

3. Slow-motion staccato notes: think of your position approach as if you were playing it at full-speed - how would you approach the notes?

4. Take advantage of slow-motion practice by keeping your tongue and body relaxed.

5. When increasing your speed by one m.m. at a time, you be the judge of whether or not you can skip one or two speeds as you increase. This depends on the difficulty of the section. Be creative and mindful of your method and use the tools as you need them.

6. If you make a mistake in slow work, go back at least a beat and enter the section again.

Practice Instructions for this week

1. Run half program each weekday, and full program on Saturday and Sundays (or days in which you have have more than 2 hours to practice).

2. Do “performance-practice” on each piece for 1 hour on weekdays and more on the weekends, rotating each of your five pieces until you’ve done all of them - then restart the rotation.

   1. Choose your chunk (4-16) (as the weeks progress, your chunks should get bigger).

   2. Slow work (you decide what KIND of slow work depending on the content).

      1. Close loud (HA, HT)

      2. Staccato (HA, HT)

      3. High loud (only use when you have real technical issues) (THREE PARTS)

      4. Slow-motion practice (repeated, three times in-a-row correctly.

      5. Rhythms, accent practice, sprints, etc.
