2017-2018 Lesson 9: Marina Rocha

Lesson taught by Dustin Gledhill.

  1. Scales
    1. Wrists up
    2. Elbows relaxed
    3. Shoulders relaxed
    4. Careful that your wrists stay up when you play your thumb! Easy to drop on your thumb.
    5. Sit further back on your bench to give your elbows room to move. :)
    6. A, E Majors needs some work with correct notes.
  2. Arabesque
    1. Careful to count at the beginning - you're playing extra chords. :)
    2. LH chords measures 1-2 - "pop" your wrist up on each chord to make a short and strong (but soft) accent.
    3. RH measures 3-6: "pop" your wrist up at the end of each slur on the staccato note. Keep your fingers close to the keys after you pop your wrist.
    4. Fix the pauses in the last three measures of the piece. Do this by preparing the new position as quickly as possible, without playing it!
  3. Clowns
    1. Always remember to sit correctly! :)
    2. Last three chords of the piece - staccato! "pop" technique but remember your fingers stay close to the keyboard. Practice this slowly.
    3. Measure 9 - I would LOVE to hear the p arking.
