How to Practice

Binder on the music stand, iPad to the right. That is the setup.

Use the Practice Guide below. It writes your practice down for you, no comments needed.

  • Press Start from # whatever number it shows.

  • Press Start, read the assignment, practice.

  • When you are finished, press Done.

  • Press Next practice item and go again.

30 minutes a day.

Need the metronome, a recorder or the Section-Work colors? They are in Practice Tools. Tap one and it opens inside your assignment. Tap Close to put it away.

Log every practice session from today. Official tracking starts Monday, October 19, the Monday after our first group class. Logging now is how we get the kinks out.

1. 🟩 Finger Numbers, page 2

THIS WEEK: Finish page 2 and colour it in.

  • Trace each finger to its number.

  • Say the number out loud as you trace it.

2. 🟩 Finger Number Practice, page 3

THIS WEEK: Finish the boxes on page 3.

  • Tap the fingers in the order the box shows.

  • Say the numbers out loud as you tap.

  • Right hand says RH. Left hand says LH.

Theory

3. 🟩 High and Low, pages 1-2

THIS WEEK: Do pages 1 and 2.

  • Play a low key, then a high key.

  • Is the next one higher or lower? Say it out loud.

4. 🟩 Theory & Musicianship, Spooky Lane, pages 2 and 3

THIS WEEK: Do pages 2 and 3.

  • Find the bat caves. Every two black keys are a bat cave.

  • Find the three towers. Every three black keys are the spooky castle.

  • Colour them in.

5. 🟩 Rhythm, page 1

THIS WEEK: Clap the X's and say "ta" on every quarter note.

  • A quarter note gets one beat.

  • Clap and say ta at the same time.

  • Keep a steady beat, like a clock.
