TECHNIQUE

  1. Level 9: Scales Passed (12/19/2020)

    1. For octave scales -

      1. Play in more closed position.

      2. Think less about the distance.

      3. Rotate wrists more to each position.

      4. Don’t “get stressed out about descending.”

    2. Prepare All Chords Above.

      1. Pass off by 2nd week in January.

READING

  1. Sightreading: 5-10 min a day

    1. Level 7 Books

    2. Look at the bass first. Why do we do this? It outlines the harmony. We also read intervals from the bass.

    3. If you get in a mode of panic / grasping for any note: improvise a pulse while you abandon the material and look ahead to the next measure.

    4. CONFIDENCE! Play each note with confidence, even if you know there’s going to be a mistake.

    5. Confident approach to the rhythm and articulation. Leave notes out.

        6. Triplet extensions of 16TH note passages are awkward. (Listen to the recordings for this sections. )

        7. Slow section - needs energy but of a different kind. Do the ritard gradually.

        8. Don’t hold note too long at the end.
