#2💚RCM Technical Requirements Level 02

(Approx. 8-13 min each day)

  1. Do the highlighted yellow items listed on page 1

  2. Special focus is wrist: think about the penny on your wrist when you tuck under the thumb and cross over the thumb.

#3💚Four Star: Level 2:

(Approx. 7-10 min each day)

  1. Do the sight-reading examples from Sets 3 and 4 (two per day)

  2. Practice playbacks in steps:

    1. Identify the tonic or dominant

    2. Then play two notes: identify tonic or dominant followed by identifying the interval (1, 2, 3 of 5)

    3. Add another note and do the same as above.

#4💚Interval & Chord Recognition

  1. Major 3rd, Minor 3rd or Perfect 5th

    1. Play the interval ascending and descending once.

    2. ‼️10 audio examples are found in “Four_Star_02_Tests” in Newzik. Select the media button and the audio is titled “Interval Training”

  2. Major or Minor Root Position Triads (blocked / solid)

    1. Play several of these each practice session.

  1. Practice starting from any measure of the piece (three times per practice session.

  2. Once through with metronome 84 per quarter note (this helps keep the muscle memory in tact and notes clean).

  3. Work on memorization and practice with m.m. 108, 112, and 116

#6💚Minuet in G Major, BWV Anh. 114 by Christian Petzold (1677-1733) (L. 3, A)

  1. Between mm. 20-21, working on getting rid of th pause.

  2. Measure 31: fix the LH note in beat two. “spot” this section.

    1. Remember: spotting means to isolate your problem area, practice hands alone and together, 3-5 times in-a-row correctly.

  3. Trill Exercise: Measure 30.

    1. Start by accenting the upper note of the trill and make the lower note softer 10 times with good position.

    2. Same as above but switch the accent.

#7💚Sonatina in G Major, Anh. 5, no. 1. II. Romanze, attr. Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) (L. 3, B)

  1. Learn measures 1-8.

    1. Very slowly, hands apart, then hands together, in very small chunks.

    2. Focus on Notes, Fingering, and the orange expressive markings.
