Technique - START YOUR PRACTICE WITH THIS

*Hanon No. 1 in B-flat Major - work up to m.m. 72 per 8th note
1. POSITION: keep rounder fingers (LH finger 4)
2. POSITION: keep your fingers further into the black.
3. POSITION: gently raise your wrists at the top of each pattern.
4. EXPRESSION / RHYTHM: tidy attacks.
*Technical Requirements Level 3
1. SCALES: gradually increase your speed to m.m. 80, two notes per tic. Don’t worry if you can’t quite make it to 80 next week.
  1. PRACTICE: say the number of sharps and flats out, and the individual names.
  2. REVIEW: all points in your Hanon assignment.
2. *FORMULA PATTERN:
  1. POSITION: careful of twisting wrists, especially when the thumb is played, don’t let the wrist drop.
  2. REVIEW: all points in your Hanon assignment.
3. *CHROMATIC:
  1. POSITION: check in with the rest of your body to make sure the position is good and that you’re relaxed.
  2. RHYTHM: gradually increase your speed.
4. *CHORDS:
  1. POSITION: careful not to twist your wrist when thumb is placed on a black key.
  2. FINGERING: double check your fingering in 1st and 2nd inversions.
