Goals for repertoire for following lesson. Announce each and every piece as it appears above in bold. Play all your pieces by memory.
Please do as much as possible from the Set Exercises - following lesson is dedicated to this section of the assessment. Many thanks!
Record yourself playing each of your five assessment pieces
Listen / watch back with your music in front of you, listening for dynamics, articulations, tempo, correct rhythm, pauses, etc.
Pause the video / recording and write down each SPOT (section that needs work) and GOAL (what needs to be fixed) in your practice chart.
Text or email a photo of the "Spotting & Section Work" charts to both Dustin and Rami.
Marina, your pieces are getting better and better! Very well done for the patient work you’ve done so far. I’m very proud of you, and you should be proud for yourself as well!
General comments: Remember the basic principles of why we make music! As pianists we bring to life such beautiful pieces so we can offer our audience an experience. Sometimes the experience can be happy, exciting, sad, thoughtful, reflecting etc etc. It always depends on the piece we are playing and, and the story we want to tell through our playing. All we need to do is concentrate during our performance, and follow the composer’s directions.
Listen to phrasing, dynamic contrasts, ‘listen’ to your body (breathe) and fingers.
Bach - Dynamic contrasts. Listen/feel your body (arms) when you have the jump to F#. Trust yourself!!! Begin with confidence, and enthousiasm.
Kabalevsky
Dynamic contrasts. Make sure you’re focused until the last rest of the piece!
Burgmuller
Dynamic contrasts. Listen to each and every 16th note - especially LH. Do not rush at the last line!!!!
88 per quarter beat!
Czerny
Character / scherzando (funnily) Think of butterflies, flying...please do not rush at the last line.
Clementi
Continue the good work, slow practice, long / short eighth notes. Aim at playing the whole page without stopping.
Loeschhorn Piano Duet No. 10
HS & HT - Remember time signature is 6/8. (Dotted quarter note is equal to 3 eight notes.)
Please continue with scales, and set exercises as before.
Clementi: Please practice SLOW with all the eighth notes Long / Short. It is very important that you feel breath both with your mouth/nose and hands. When you cannot continue without stopping please start from the bar before.
Burgmuller: Same practice method as Clementi - 16th notes long/ short. Listen to each and every 16th note of the LH please.
Bach: Make sure you remember to breath with your hands please. Clear notes.
Czerny: Please practice LH alone - in general LH needs to be much softer than the RH.
Kabalevsky: Sounds good. Bars 9-16 RH needs some alone Long / Short practice.
